COMMUNIQUE OF THE 2-DAY 1ST BON FIFA 2010 WORLD CUP BROADCASTERS WORKSHOP HELD IN PROTEA HOTEL MARYLAND, LAGOS FROM 9-10 FEBRUARY 2010.
PREAMBLE
A two day FIFA 2010 World Cup Broadcasters Workshop was held in Protea Hotel, Maryland Lagos from Tuesday February 9 to Wednesday February 10, 2010. The work shop was organized by BON in collaboration with OSMI to ensure fool proof transmission of 2010 FIFA world cup. The workshop was attended by sport editors, producers and engineers from 24 Radio and Television Stations in the country.
The Chairman Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) and Director General Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Abubakar Jijiwa in his remarks enjoined BON member stations not to break ranks in the acquisition of the global sports rights of important sports events in order to check the exploitation of Nigerian broadcasters by foreign third party entrepreneurs. He expressed his satisfaction on the huge attendance of the workshop by the Radio and Television Stations that are stake holders in the South African 2010 World Cup Joint transmission.
PRESENTATIONS
Five presentations were made on various issues pertaining to the successful transmission of the 2010 World Cup.
1.) The Competition Overview and Accreditation by the MD, OSMi Mr. Rotimi Pedro.
2.) Technical Information by Director of Engineering OSMi Engr. Gabriel Ogbotobo.
3.) Production by Lillian Wilkinson a South African based Producer/Director.
4.) Commercial/Marketing Overview by Rotimi Pedro
RESOLUTIONS.
After intensive deliberations the participants resolved as follows:
1.) To ensure the successful transmission of the 2010 world cup holding in South Africa in Nigeria from June 11, 2010
2.) That a BON interactive studio will be situated in Lagos and South Africa to transmit the 64 matches on Television while Radio Studio will be based in Abuja and South Africa to transmit 42 matches
3.) That 10 presenters, 20 analysts and 18engineers will be short listed to work in the BON studio in Lagos and Johannesburg
4.) That all the stakeholders must submit their completed FIFA accreditation forms to BON secretariat or OSMi on or before February 12, 2010.
5.) That all participating stations must fully comply with the code of conduct of the joint transmission especially by taking all the commercials and sticking to the transmission schedule.
6.) That the revenue due to the stakeholders will be based on investment and final
compliance.
7.) That Independent Producers can only use the footages of the 2010 world cup authority only on approval of BON.
8.) That radio stations would meet to formulate an enduring Radio Strategy for a successful transmission.
9.) All participating Television Stations will be provided with decoders to ensure the reception of clean feed signals during the tournament.
10.) That BON transmission studio will be open one hour before the tournament for Nigerian matches, quarter finals, semi finals and finals and 30minutes for the other matches
11.) Two workshops will be held in early May 2010 re-orientate the short listed presenters and analysts as well as engineers, producers and cameramen before commencement of the tournament.
12.) All participating stations should immediately start airing the 2010 world cup promo in their stations.
13.) It was resolved that only BON logo and the stations logo will be super-imposed on the screen during the transmission.
14.) Participants commended BON and OSMi for the organization of the workshop and hoped to utilize all the knowledge they acquired during the event to ensure the successful transmission of the 2010 world cup.
